About this game

Developed by a tiny, two-person dev team, Bug & Seek is a relaxing bug-catching game with a mystery twist and pixel art bugs. 🪲 🦋 🔍
You've just bought an abandoned Insectarium (bug zoo)—congratulations! Now, go catch real-life bugs, build your collection, and level up your skills. Bug & Seek features a very simple and peaceful gameplay loop, no stress, and no wrong choices. So relax and enjoy all those bugs (and learn about them too)!

🐝 🐛 💚 Discover 200+ adorable and real insects
Every bug comes with a humorous tagline and a codex entry with facts presented by the bug itself, and each bug can be found in seasons, locations and at times that mirror real life. Change the way you view the world around you (and especially under your feet).
🛠️ 🦺 Customize and Expand Your Insectarium
Build new wings to the Insectarium and create the best display the town has ever known. And of course, fill it with bugs!
🌎 🥾🦋 Explore The World
Bugs live in every kind of habitat: from meadows, deserts, and forests to wetlands, beaches, urban environments, and caves. And wouldn't you know it? Bug & Seek has all of these!
🗣️ 👋 Meet the Locals
From the mayor to the herb farmer, meet the 19+ locals of the town of Buggburg and perform jobs for them to earn special gear and items, secrets and gossip, and maybe even haikus.
🔍 📸 Solve the Mystery

One year ago someone broke into the Insectarium in the middle of the night and stole all of the bugs in an incident known as The Great Bug Heist. See if you can piece together what really happened as you solve the mystery and unmask the guilty party!
What to Expect: 🪲 👍
Simple Game Mechanics — Explore, shake objects to reveal hiding bugs, and swing your net. Bug & Seek was meant to be easy, peaceful, and stress-free. A leveling system increases the rarity of bugs you can catch, and some special items boost your chances too.
A Bug-Based Economy — To earn money, you will have to sell bugs at the stores and for jobs and quests. But don't worry, you will be able to catch more!
Cozy, Humorous Vibes — The cute little town of Buggburg to explore, lots of goofy and bug-obsessed NPC's, bugs with personalities and jokes, and a fun mystery about someone stealing a bunch of bugs.
Light Customization — There are a handful of adorable new decoration sets, and even a few new clothing items you can acquire.
Real Facts and Information — Every bug in the game is a real bug, and you'll learn things like why bugs are so important to biodiversity and environmental health.
What Bug & Seek DOES NOT have: 🚫 👎
Challenging gameplay; again, the gameplay loop in Bug & Seek is very simple.
Mini games; if you swing your net at a bug, you will catch it.
Energy meters or sleep requirements; after all, you can only catch certain bugs at night.
Multiplayer options;
Combat; while bugs in real life do attack and eat other bugs, they don't in Bug & Seek, and you won't fight NPC's with your bugs. The bugs also do not carry swords or wear medieval armor, as fun as that might sound.
Romance; while you can talk to NPC's, and do jobs for them involving catching bugs, you cannot romance them, nor can you romance the bugs, regardless of the superpowers that might give to your offspring.

The DLC is made up of 30 bugs--all painted by our player community! And they contributed taglines and codex descriptions, too. Y'all are truly amazing. And as for the price, we felt it would be unfair to charge anything for mostly fan-made content, so this one is FREE. We really hope it brings you as much joy as it brought to us in putting it together!Read full article on Community Announcements (sopeculiargames)Patch NotesOfficial
QoL Update, New Good Bug, New Tank, and Special Announcement!
Hey, friends! There are a few updates in this patch that will hopefully make your experience in Buggburg even better. :) Also, if you hadn't heard yet... Bug & Seek is now available on mobile devices for both iOS & Google Play! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43461163/ec705bae015b3a9ffc24464b29410499efc8ffc7.png Here's are the updates included in this build: Option to Turn On Interaction Emotes There's a new option in the Options menu to turn on Interaction Emotes. When turned on, you'll see an emote appear on your character when approaching an object that can be checked for a bug. This feature is automatic on mobile but optional for PC/Mac (coming soon to Switch). {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43461163/4d63e2d907ad8306d72f41f9ced2e9020b94a8aa.png Sell Back Decor at Full Price Decor can be sold back to merchants at full price. There is an occasional bad bug where players are getting a storage tank when they attempt to buy something else. It'll take me a longer time to fix this, so in the meantime, you can just sell those tanks back at full price. :) Rope Ladder Can Be Fixed The rope ladder is now permanently fixed after using it once for convenient travel from the main meadows area to the cave. Easier Controller Use When Shipping Jobs When shipping jobs, your inventory appears in one screen. Those using controllers will no longer have to scroll to select all the bugs they want to ship. New Good Bug! Moss Mimic Stick Insect was added New Tank Added A new 3-Bug Wooden Tank will appear sometimes at Bob's Bigger Store on Sunday Legendary = Extremely Rare "Extremely Rare" was changed to "Legendary." This was a purely aesthetic choice to fit with our tabletop game that's currently in development. ;) Optimizations Optimizations were made in the code for slightly faster load times (won't be noticeable on high-performing machines) and to guard against certain bad bugs occurring when placing decor. AAAND... in other news, Craig (our game writer) just published a book! So if you like all those clever...Read full article on Community Announcements (sopeculiargames)Patch NotesOfficial
QoL update + bad bug fix + new tank
Hey, friends! We've been working hard on the mobile version of Bug & Seek, and in the process were able to optimize/fix a few more things for Steam. Bad Bug Fix - In the stores, some people were experiencing the wrong item being bought or sold. This bad bug is inconsistent and so a bit tricky to nail down, but I suspect it was caused by some lag between selecting an item and the item display in the store window. I changed a few things with the store function to optimize and hopefully prevent this from happening in the future! The item selected will have its details displayed in that shop UI window, so that's the item that will be sold or bought when you hit the button. Please let me know if you experience any other issues here! Controller QoL Improvement - when shipping bugs for a job, all your inventory is now in one screen, so you don't have to fool with the scroll bar here. Balancing - Monarch Butterflies are now "uncommon" as opposed to rare. There were only 2 uncommon butterflies, and there should have been 3. We missed that on release. New Tank - There is now a 3-Bug Classic Tank (the dark wood style) available in Bob's Bigger Store. It's in his Sunday rotation. Thanks so much for all your support. Craig and I will continue to make improvements to the game as we can. Thank you SOOO much for playing! -CheraRead full article on Community Announcements (sopeculiargames)Patch NotesOfficial
New (good) bugs added!
I made some minor optimizations to the code, but we also added the Joro Spider 🕷️ to the master list of bugs! The previous addition (in case you missed it) was the Giant Honey Bee 🐝. Your codex will tell you where all the bugs can be found, so check that for help in finding these two new bugs. :)Read full article on Community Announcements (sopeculiargames)Patch NotesOfficial
