Navigate through tense, psychedelic rooms as Orillia, upgrading her powers to escape. OutRune from EGG offers intense action with hidden memories waiting to be uncovered.
About this game
OutRune is a unique blend of fast paced action, room clearing, simple item upgrading, a touch of memory and a touch of mystery. So jump in and help Orillia ESCAPE!

Captured by 'The Runeless', a dark and powerful being, you must take Orillia on her journey to escape imprisonment while struggling to keep her grasp on reality due to a broken and faded memory caused by years of torment and failed escape attempts. To escape this nightmare, you must vanquish rooms of minions, who are only alive to serve the bidding of their master whilst he experiments with different ways to increase his power. Along her journey, Orillia will encounter many obstacles that you, the player, must help her overcome, including mysterious powers and curve balls from The Runeless that could completely change your approach.

Once belonging to others, these AfterFacts are powerful Items that Orillia can somehow harness the power of. Find them along the way and use them to help progress through the treacherous floors.

A SIMPLE and QUICK upgrading system allows you to empower Orillia's found AfterFacts. There are only 4 types of Runes.
Health (Green)
Agility (Blue)
Luck (Yellow)
Damage (Red)
Your possible upgrades will reflect the core values of the runes you have deposited. So combining two blue runes will produce an upgrade based on speed/agility and movement, whereas combining a yellow and a red rune will provide an upgrade based on luck and power. Lucky power!

You need to have your wits about you and observe your environment to help Orillia remember where she cannot. Glyphs will be presented to you and if you fail to remember them you will be CURSED for that room. Some are not so bad ... but some can throw quite the spanner in your run.

Early Access will include the following features:
3 floors which will generate a set of rooms from a pool of over 80 rooms
A unique boss at the end of each floor
Many different enemy types with new ones appearing in each floor
Up to 10 AfterFacts each with all upgrade recipes
Unlock progression
up to 15 curses
Manual Seed entry so you can play the same run again
3 Difficulties
3 Save slots
Full Release Additions:
over 6 floors in total including secret floors
New AfterFacts
New bosses (multiple bosses per floor)
New enemies
New lore
New intros
Different character skins (which apply different starting stats)
New Curses
More secrets
The game's core takes inspiration from classic rogue-like games, with a fun and addictive game loop leaving you with that itch to try and get further than you ever did before.
Created by a solo developer, the game is a labour of love. It will be released to early access once enough content has been implemented to justify an early access release. Upon early access release, the game will have three floors to traverse. Each floor consists of a randomly selected progression of rooms (from a pool of rooms created specifically for that floor), with a boss to fight at the end of each floor!
During development, all player feedback is taken on board to help grow OutRune into the best possible version of itself, so please don't hesitate to get in touch with suggestions and comments.

OutRune - Steam Deck - Performance and plans
Whilst developing OutRune, I always use the steam deck as my target hardware goals. And I'm very proud that its able to achieve 60FPS whilst having reasonable graphics settings! I have been fine tuning and testing different configurations and have implemented a start up config when running OutRune on a steam deck. You should be able to just sit back and enjoy the game at its best looking and highest frame rate that the steam deck can support without having to dive into complex settings. Of course you are free to tinker, but I did lots of tinkering for you in case you don't want to have to :D I am striving for the green verified tick, but this can only be given when the game is popular enough and valve offers the test, so as soon as this is available I will be aiming for that tick!!Read full article on Community Announcements (DHDUO)AnnouncementsOfficial
OutRune Demo - (Re)Released!
OutRune has entered its final stage of early access development! and with that comes the re-release of the demo which is an accurate and polished action filled sneak peak into the full game, with still several AfterFacts to play with and things to unlock to experiment with potential builds and play styles! OutRune - Demo Store Page So what do you mean (re)released? Well ... back when I was a naive developer I activated the demo for steams next fest. It wasn't ready and I was too eager to show the world I was working on something. But because it wasn't quite ready I deactivated the demo after the event concluded, I then became a father, I had work problems, and the time was quickly slipping away ... and because I was so naive I din't realise I was blowing my chance at new demo release momentum, and it will be forever cursed with a confusing release date. So if you are a fellow game developer reading this. Don't release a demo too early :D If you are a gamer interested in the game, I invite you to have a go, and if you encounter any issues or have any constructive feedback then I would love to hear from you! So what happened? happening? will happen?
My biggest mistake ... entering steam next fest too early. I was excited, naive and eager to get my game out there, but this turned out to be the biggest mistake, because it was still growing, ideas were not tested, characters were being refined and one major life occurrence happened ... I became a dad. So after entering fatherhood, stabilising, and finally jumping back in the saddle, OutRune has been refined, the ideas have been consolidated, the plans set in motion, and its identity clear. There is still lots to do, but now there is a more clear vision and plan. Create a new refined demo Create an early access build Push for 1.0 release It would be great to have you along for the ride! so if you want to keep up to date you can join the socials here: Discord:discord.gg/jm6FRggjYd Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elliotgascoignegames/Youtube: I aim to have the demo ready in the next month or so, and an early access release is planned for the final quarter of this year! So stay tuned, say hi, and speak to you next time!Read full article on Community Announcements (DHDUO)Community & EventsOfficial
The conclusion of Steams Next Fest!
The demo will still be available until July 2nd I want to thank everyone who tried out the demo for OutRune, especially those who left comments in the community hub and other platforms. Every piece of feedback will be studied and used to inform what things need the most attention during the next stage of development. Some stand-out issues that need addressing: - Item and drop balancing - Stat balancing - Bringing to light the lore and story of the game - Making the Aramon Guard loop more interesting - Improving the visibility and comprehensiveness of the tutorial - More hints on screen - Power-up effects visibility before picking up - Physical effect that some stats have on the projectiles (making accuracy not affect range, for example) - Enemy attack telegraphing - General audio consistency And much more that came up after all the excellent constructive feedback from you guys. What happens next? So there will be one more week where the demo will be available to play. This is for those who may not have had time to give it a go during the festival. It will be de-listed after this so I can put all my efforts into developing the game further to reach my target for the early access release. This may include some pretty big changes, so leaving the demo up in its current state may mislead players, and it also allows me to spend my time on the full game rather than maintaining the demo. As a solo developer, time is something in very short supply! You can still join the discord to join me on this journey, and if you are interested in giving your opinion as the game develops, this is a perfect place to do so: OutRune Discord Server So I will be having a much-needed rest for a few days and then working on the next stage of development. Thanks again, and I hope to see you on the Discord server!Read full article on Community Announcements (DHDUO)AnnouncementsOfficial
OutRune Demo!
To be eligible to take part in the Steam Next Fest you must have a demo available ... So that is what I did. I worked tirelessly for the whole of May to get a somewhat cohesive version of OutRune up to a standard that will show roughly what the game loop and game feel will be like for the early access release. This means players will be able to show support by giving the demo a go and giving feedback by joining the discord channel and dropping any comments or concerns there. The Demo is planned to become available shortly before the start of the Steam Next Fest on the 19th of June. It will be available for the duration of the festival and also one week following the festival. It will close on Sunday the 2nd July. If you'd like to join the community for more information and to keep up to date, here is the discord server: https://discord.gg/xTtpWgSX3Y I am very excited and nervous for you all to try the demo. It has been a very tough and rapid development whirlwind for the last few months and I look forward to becoming a normal person again. But hopefully all the effort will pay off and you will find the game fun and anticipate the early access release! The demo itself is a bitesize version of the content that will be available in the early access release. There is only one floor for this demo so the character building and stat progression don't help that much, but considering the next floors will ramp up the difficulty, with many more enemy types and bosses, you will be able to see what kind of preparations you can make. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2450490/OutRuneDemo/ Thanks for your time and hope to see you in the community discord channel!
