Explore Riskara’s whimsical worlds as Captain Disaster navigates challenges in this point-and-click adventure. With cartoony graphics and an epic storyline, you'll laugh at more jokes than you can count.

About this game

It all starts with Captain Disaster answering a distress call from a mysterious ship... but it ends up with a planet desperate to rekindle its geothermal energy source, and the long-lasting legacy of an intergalactic empire long consigned to the history books. The planet houses a secret that none of its inhabitants are aware of...

Captain Disaster and The Two Worlds of Riskara features a contextual one-click interface, a host of colourful characters, devious puzzles, detailed cartoon style graphics, full voicing and an original soundtrack. You play as the adventurous but not altogether bright eponymous Captain, aided (sometimes) by your ship's computer, Zero-Bit, as you help a race of aliens whose complex history is largely unknown, even to themselves.

This game is a collaboration between award-winning developers Dave Seaman (multiple AGS Awards for Captain Disaster in: Death Has A Million Stomping Boots & other games) and Lorenzo Boni (winner of the $106 Adventure Game Challenge for Where Did the Humans Go? and an AGS Award). These two amiable lunatics have been point & click adventure game fans for many years and they have collaborated previously on small games and even a children's book, but nothing approaching the scale and scope of this new Captain Disaster game!

(Playing the two previous Captain Disaster games is not necessary for this one, although there will be some references to events in the earlier games, and even a returning character from Stomping Boots...)

The soundtrack is being composed by Eric Galluzzo, a recent finalist in the Ryan Leach Composition Competition, whose previous work includes the OST for The Corruption Within.

Making this game together has been a real joy and we hope that comes across in the game, and we sincerely hope you have as much fun playing it as we are having making it. The playable demo will give you a good introduction to the game style and story, without revealing much in terms of the game's overall theme. If you find the demo a little bit too easy, don't worry - we deliberately made it reasonably simple, bigger challenges await in the full game.

You may be wondering how family-friendly this game is? It's absolutely designed to be enjoyed by all ages! The storyline contains complex themes and some of the puzzles will definitely challenge all but the most hardened point-and-clickers (I'm talking about people who completed games like Monkey Island 2, The Dig and Lucy's Dreaming without ever resorting to hints!!), but at the same time it will always contain humour and animation to delight younger players. Naturally some references in the game will require a certain knowledge of adventure games, sci-fi shows and movies, etc, but these are not essential to playing the game or solving the puzzles, just an added extra.

Have you managed to scroll all the way down to the bottom of this description? Congratulation! You must be tired...

    Last update of 2024!

Greetings, earthlings! Just wanted to give everyone interested in the game a brief update on what's happening. Recently, we started true end-to-end testing to prove that the game can be played from start to finish. This has been proven, and a lot of little improvements have been made to the game as a result. This is where we are with the project now: - Story and game design are 100% done. - Graphics and music also 100% done (unless we decide to add anything!) - Playtime 8-12 hours (maybe longer for achievement hunters!) - We just have Voice Acting, final testing and refinements to go... - Estimated release date by Q2 2025. Thanks to everyone who's supported the project since its inception, whether as part of the team aiding in development or testing in any way, helping to spread the word on social media, or just words of encouragement / interactions on various forums etc. It's all very much appreciated! ːsteamhappyːːsteamthumbsupː Boos and scowly faces to everyone who hasn't supported us ːsteammockingː I feel that we're creating a game that people will really enjoy, and hopefully that turns out to be true... until then stay safe, Disaster Friends! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43546977/bac99eb5226a4f157168a6e3f43ef5aec93e16c6.png

Steam Deck compatibility and dev update

Firstly, just a quick message to say that we have confirmed that Captain Disaster and the Two Worlds of Riskara is compatible with Steam Deck. One of our testers will be specifically looking at this, and below is a video of the demo in action: In terms of development we are making steady progress. The first 4 acts of the game are fully playable with mostly final assets, whilst the fifth act is about half-way there. Testing is on-going, and now at the stage where we are moving the test build over to the Steam client and will begin to add achievement code. We're on course for a 2024 release, and hopefully within a couple of months we will be in a position to start thinking about a more specific release timeframe. Finally I'd like to showcase a small walkthrough of some of the locations in Act 2, including some of the fantastic animations by Lorenzo and of course you can also hear a snippet of Eric's brilliant music score. Until we meet again - stay disastrous! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43546977/cbb6c9bd22646631661c27bdba9cbfad25287c08.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43546977/bac99eb5226a4f157168a6e3f43ef5aec93e16c6.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43546977/0c08eee765dda7eca7c0d28eb7ef5ae8cec6ee2f.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43546977/c2de780a8802cb49be08dcccd2e1e014ee6185a3.png

    Demo build updated

Change Log: V1.01 - Bug fixed which could crash game if you go to very specific location in one room - Fixed bug where you could exit cells room from any position - Missing walk-behind area added - Wilson text location corrected - Wildekimbo dialogue option switching off appropriately that was remaining on - Extra comment by player in one dialogue to point player towards their next step - Added interaction responses to pipe - Added extra reaction to book interaction - Added extra explanatory reaction in ContainerBot dialogue - Added change speed option for power cell mini-game It is probable that if you have an old savegame for the demo from v1.00 that it will no longer work with the new version of the demo. Sorry about that, but since it's quite a small demo and cut-scenes / dialogues are skippable, it really shouldn't take long to get back to where you were.
