About the Game
Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days is a side-scrolling shelter survival game that tasks you with guiding a desperate group of zombie apocalypse survivors to safety. Craft weapons, scavenge resources, balance your group’s needs, and try to get everyone out of danger alive.
Texas, 1980. Walton City is a sprawling, coastal metropolis in the grip of a scorching heatwave and crippling economic crisis. Everything changes when an unstoppable zombie outbreak reaches US shores. Walton City is soon overrun by hordes of the undead, the few remaining survivors cut off from any chance of outside help. Forced to band together, these everyday people must chase their only chance of survival by escaping the city.

Gather a group of ordinary people who have been left shaken by the sudden zombie outbreak that has devastated their city.
Establish upgradable shelters to house your survivors and protect them from the zombie threat — but remember that no barriers can keep them out forever.
Keep moving from refuge to refuge to stay one step ahead of the encroaching zombie hordes. Every night, your barricades will be under their relentless attack. And if they break through, your survivors will pay the price.
Balance the physical needs of the group, like Hunger or Exhaustion, as well as psychological needs like Despair. Heal survivors from injuries like Broken Ribs and try to manage traumas like Nightmares.

Creep through the remains of Walton City to scavenge precious resources, risking the life of each survivor as they encounter both zombie and human threats. Stealth is key to survival.
Choose whether to run from a fight or engage in brutal combat with whatever weapons you can find or craft. Not everyone is a natural fighter, but desperate people will do anything to survive.
Convince others to join your group or cut them down and claim their resources as your own.

Test your humanity as you make tough decisions on who will live, who will die, and who will be left behind.
Inhabit the rich and atmospheric cityscape of Walton City, the once-bustling metropolis now an eerie ruin swarming with zombies.
Craft tools, weapons, and shelter upgrades to better equip your survivors for the struggles ahead, or give them a moment of comfort and familiarity in their dangerous new world.
Encounter a varying world which makes sure that every playthrough is a new experience.

Update Notes: Early Access Update #14 - Survivor Missions IV
SURVIVOR MISSIONS IVEarly Access Update #14 - v0.17 NotesNew Survivor MissionsAdded new survivor missions:Frank Candy Hudson If you're a returning player and want to jump straight into the new Survivor Missions, they will trigger if you have the survivor (Candy, Hudson, Frank) in the shelter for more than one phase and six total phases have passed (for Candy and Frank) or seven total phases have passed (for Hudson). AdjustmentsAdded "Kill all threats to move in" to the Map location info panel when players have selected a Potential Shelter location.Friendly NPCs (like Isaiah during Joe's survivor mission) are now invulnerable to a survivor's ranged weapons and throwables. Throwables like bricks should not make contact with them. Damage-dealing throwables like grenades should also no longer deal damage (although the NPC might still react to it). This was part of a fix to a bug where Isaiah would become unresponsive during Joe's mission. All survivors and NPCs should now have flipped versions of their portraits. Consistency is key.Updated some cover points in various locations so that they aren't as deep, to better influence zombie line-of-sight.Improved the SFX for head-stomps.Reinstated the hover state on items in inventory screens. When players hover over an item in the inventory, the item will show a yellow outline around it.Adjusted the grenade's damage so that it does less damage if the thrower is further away from the center of the blast.Removed lead-in time for the icon animation that plays when a stealth kill becomes possible, to allow players to react faster.Updated SFX for the zombie banging on the window at the start of the 9th Precinct Station, so that it sounds more like glass.Moved the truck on Route 93 as it was causing survivors to get stuck.Made it so Bowman's dog tag is no longer gained when he is evicted. It is now only obtainable by killing him.Added new tutorial events and adjusted some existing ones.Reduced the chance of the deep wound that Vince ...Read full article on Community AnnouncementsPatch NotesOfficial

NEWS: 1.0 Hard Launch coming March 2027
It's official. Hard launch is coming in March 2027.It's finally time. In April 2025, we launched into Early Access on Steam. Since then, we’ve released 13 major content updates with a range of new gameplay features including new zombie types, new starting and recruitable characters, new Escape Plans, new systems and combat, new survivor missions and relationships, new weapons, new districts, new settings including difficulty and content control, save slots, and countless more additions. With your help and feedback, we’ve also squished numerous bugs and developed significant improvements. Today we are proud to announce that Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days will be leaving Early Access and entering 1.0 release in March 2027. For those of you who have been patiently waiting for a console release, we're also pleased to share that Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days will be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. We’re also bringing it to the Epic Games Store and GEForce NOW, and we'll be keeping it Steam Deck verified, so there will be plenty of ways to play in 2027.And don't worry, this isn't the end! There's still more for us to do in Early Access before we reach 1.0, and updates will continue until we've ticked all the boxes on our roadmap. (Yes, there will be achievements.) Also, don't forget a small contingent of our team will be flying from New Zealand to Germany next week to attend gamescom. For general public, you can swing by our booth at the Home of Indies stand, Hall 10.2, E010g - D011g, to chat directly with members of the development team. For content creators and trade visitors, you can book a slot with us directly in the dedicated trade area by emailing pikpok@deadgoodmedia.com, where we can run you through all the new content and plans.
