About this game
It is a freely accessible museum, which exclusively exhibits virtual art. Like in many video
games, the visitor walks around the museum in
a first person perspective using their mouse and
keyboard. The museum has five main rooms, with four of them following the ”white cube” format. The fifth and biggest room is the main hall where visitors get orientations about the current exhibition.
Although most video games and virtual worlds are inhabited by designed objects and textures, these tend to serve a secondary, decorative role. Often acting as scenery or props, the most common aesthetic experience of virtual art is of a peripheral nature. Whether or not something is regarded as an object of ’fine art’ or rather as a decorative object is a matter of perception. This difference in perception has much to do with the context in which the given artwork occurs. By mimicking the architectural style of a classical art museum, Virtual Museum for Virtual Art seeks to provide a platform for virtual artworks to be perceived
and considered as fine art.

Some fixed obstacles
VMVA is soon opening the doors for a new exhibition. On the 11th October 2024 the new exhibition will be added as a free update to the game. I first saw Esteban Pérez's work at his masters graduation show 2024 from the University of Fine Arts Hamburg "Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg" and over the summer we have been working on installing his artworks in a new context; the VMVA. In his work, Esteban Pérez explores the relationship between humans and their self-created environment, repeatedly directing attention to supposed inadequacies. Unclear functions, decorative elements and improvised solutions: Contrary to a possible intuitive approach of measuring the traces of humanity in its successes, Pérez's gaze leads to the provisional, the sometimes absurd and even the simply dysfunctional. What may initially seem like associative observations of scenes in public space reveals itself as cautious reflections on inconsistencies in architecture. Central motifs in Pérez's observations are architecture, nature and human artifacts, which he then puts together in groups, with the starting point and focus of the work always being architecture as a testimony to human action. The models made for "some fixed obstacles" were originally not intended to be shown in a video game context, but rather as 2D looping animations, so they were somehow rebuilt for the game, but maintaining their qualities as seamless loops. I am excited to open the second exhibition of VMVA, and proud to have Esteban Perez as an artist in the museum. Kind regards Isak Bendixen This also mean that it is last chance to access the current exhibition Escape for help for free. It will be added as a dlc and you will still be able to access older exhibitionsRead full article on Community Announcements (Antikva)Patch NotesOfficial
!! MAJOR PERFORMANCE UPDATE !!
!! MAJOR PERFORMANCE UPDATE !! I have been overwhelmingly surprised by the amount of people that have added this virtual museum to their library. Big thanks!! However i can see that many people simply can not launch the game due to performance issues. to fix this issue I have made some compromises in the visual fidelity: 1. Ray traced reflections are gone, and replaced with screen space reflections. 2. I wanted it to be possible to run from a computer with directx11, instead of the moderne directx12. For this to happen i had to disable Nanite geometry and replace with oldschool HLOD's. The change is almost invisible. But if you look closely you can see the geometry change resolution in chunks when you move further or closer away. 3. I have culled the exhibitions meaning it ceases to be rendered when you are further than a certain amount of distance units away from any of the rooms. However i have tried my best to make it invisible with larger items having a longer range before culling. I Also had to chop down the entirety of the surrounding forest and replace with flowers gathered from norway. The trees were simply too taxing in the vertex count department. Anyway. I hope you enjoyRead full article on Community Announcements (Antikva)
