Devlog #2: New Buildings
Sorry it’s been a little while since our last update, we’ve been hard at work cookin’ up something good (I also moved and got the flu). In this latest update to Monster Mash, we completely revamped the city of Metroville! This includes a new layout of the city and all new buildings and props. Just about every building in the level got remodeled and got an updated texture, where the old buildings were a little flat colored and simply textured. The new layout provides some particular sections, like a fleshed out residential area, apartment complex area, and a more congested downtown/business zone: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44928107/59c645d93e1a1e39b6172341779b876a82d0b387.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44928107/8beacc367fe8c04c26a36530960c4f696260090f.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44928107/3ac69faf38637d74bc669209e2220d905e9665ea.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44928107/0b621ec0e6743d1afdcfda7aa034797885c9963c.png We also redid the stadium and Ultrachem headquarters to be multi-part models and be able to be fractured in sections. These stadium lights kinda look like a grabbable weapon too… So we made them one. You can pluck one of these bad boys out of the ground and swing it around like a standard melee weapon. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44928107/3c9ca834daf1ba4135d36019b62bcf2e69f536f6.png On top of renovating the buildings and using a new layout, we also added two new props of trash cans and post boxes, as well as several more vehicles to chuck at structures. Just like the larger billboards at the far ends of town, you will now find smaller billboards scattered around the city with some new exciting advertisements. Aside from the increase in green space the city redesign granted us, getting rid of old models and whatnot should also lead to better performance with destruction going forward. Speaking of going forward, now that Metroville is in a much more polished state, we’ve already begun development on the next 2 official levels that will be playable in the release version of Monster Mash. We’re a litt...Read full article on Community Announcements (The Phard)Patch NotesOfficial
Update v0.1.1
With our demo being live for the past couple of weeks we've been super excited to have Monster Mash in front of people finally! We've gotten some feedback on things and have also been busy playtesting internally. With this latest patch, we've squashed a few bugs, made a few changes to code, and even added in some new content! · New musical track for Metroville. · Updated model of Boxing Glove Gun. · Updated model of Laser Guided Mallet. · New Formula Z drink drops in Metroville. · New Hot Sauce drops in Metroville. · Decreased maximum amount of time between enemy spawns. · Decreased maximum wait time between UFO spawns. · Fixed remnants of food items not colliding with buildings properly. · Adjusted minimum and maximum spawn times for UFO's. · Items now play a sound when dropped on the ground. Bug Fixes: · Fixed medal graphics in round end menu not appearing correctly. · Fixed player being able to move after the round was over or they had died. · Fixed audio cues not triggering properly when firearms were out of ammo. · Fixed some objects not awarding points properly. I plan on updating the demo continuously until the actual release of the game. This may or may not include certain additions like new weapons, snacks, and enemies to essentially test the waters and players' feedback will be crucial throughout the lifetime of the demo. Stay tuned!Read full article on Community Announcements (The Phard)AnnouncementsOfficial
DevLog #1: Free Demo
It’s here! You can play a free demo of Monster Mash while we’re in Early Access! This demo showcases a beginning level, Metroville, USA, as well as some basic weapons and snacks. There is more content that exists already and even more planned beyond that. I’m super excited to share more and more as it becomes ready. Nothing is more critical right now than getting this feeling right. Monster Mash is still in a very early state, so all the feedback possible is crucial and absolutely appreciated. Join our Discord server which is also pretty new. Players can report bugs and problems in the #bugs channel. Known Bugs: No music! The game is very quiet right now but there’s custom music being made right now! Sometimes a weapon can attach to the player’s hand at an incorrect orientation or at a small distance away. Sometimes a weapon won’t destroy a building right away if the collider is moving very fast, or very slowly. Static objects can get stuck to the player’s hand after releasing the object, but can still be destroyed by smashing it on something else. Hands are frozen in position while the tutorial prompt is active. The laser pointer line will bend, allowing you to still select buttons. Some weapons or snacks might not have icons associated yet and will appear as the monster’s head in the Logbook once acquired. The Logbook still has placeholder text in some places. Happy smashing!Read full article on Community Announcements (The Phard)AnnouncementsOfficial
DevLog #0: The Beginning, Sorta
So this is where it begins... First off, if you're reading this, thank you for stopping by! My name is Paul and I'm the solo developer of this project. This game has been in development for the past year, hence me writing this introductory post a bit retroactively. These first few entries might be framed as more of recollection and documentation, but I do hope it's also somewhat of an enjoyable read (and apologies in advance for any crappy jokes). If there’s one thing I’ve learned from making Monster Mash, it’s that marketing a game is just as difficult as developing it. With my free demo releasing in just 3 days, I’m definitely playing some catch up with social media and promotional stuff. So, this is the beginning, sort of. This is a game of high-energy, fun, experimental destruction! We’ve probably all seen a kaiju destruction VR game before, but not like this. The idea may exist already, but I believe this game takes it to a new level (pun intended) and incorporates collection and rogue-like elements. The coming demo is more of a technical showcase of mechanics within the first stage, but I have lots more coming down the pipe quickly. I chose to release this game in Early Access to get it in front of people for feedback to help me develop Monster Mash into the best version it can be. Bugs aside, I hope you enjoy the game so far and please let me know what you think. Even if this project is monumentally stupid to you, help a small dev out and hit that wishlist button because all the numbers help at this point. You can also join our early Discord community to report bugs (or just say hi). I have plenty of exciting things to show in the coming weeks. So stay tuned!Read full article on Community Announcements (The Phard)
