As a drummer racing for survival against heavy metal adversaries, you must master unique off-beat moves in Metavoidal. Developed by Yellow Lab Games, this intense 2025 indie action game challenges your reflexes and creativity.
About this game
You are a drummer. Use your drumsticks to show that you are THE drummer! If at first you don’t succeed, the only thing to do is to try and die again.
PLAY AS A DRUMMER who sees through the façade of an ominous metal band
NAVIGATE THE CHURCH overrun with corrupted fans & unimaginable horrors
LEVEL-UP YOUR DRUMMING SKILLS by proving yourself and unlocking new techniques
BUILD YOUR PLAYLIST, and use it to beat your way through the corrupted hordes
DEFEAT THE MEMBERS of hideous, eldritch band, one-by-one.
And ESCAPE!
You're a drummer that just failed your audition with a metal band. After coming to your senses, you realize that everything around you is being controlled and twisted by the band & their music. What's worse, they’ve got an army of countless corrupted fans… and now you must defeat all the band members to end this evil curse for good.
Gameplay: Collect records, draw power, and beat back evil!
Pour some gasoline, light a fire, power-up your drumming, and bring the mayhem!
Use the metal band’s own music against them by collecting the lost music records found in every level. Place them in the record player at the end of the level and you'll be able to absorb the musical powers they contain. Choose one of a dark trinity of tracks to add to your playlist!
These tracks will imbue you & your drumsticks with different corrupted powers. Oil or fire? Lightning or holy light?
Build a playlist as you escape to grow skillful enough to beat your way through the hordes of corrupted using only your drumsticks. Combine different track elements during each run to create mayhem in the most offbeat ways!
Gameplay experience
Armed with your playlist, you will slay your way through corrupted catacombs, abandoned graveyards, and harrowed church halls to collect more cursed records.
But don’t be fooled by the drumsticks! This is not a rhythm game, and the drummer is always replaceable in this band…
Battle of the Bosses
No one likes being rejected, and it seems like this motley crew of musicians like you even less. At the end of each level, the metal band that underestimated your skills will fight you in a blistering solo battle.
You must defeat every one of them to earn your freedom. Each member has unique and over-the-top abilities with their own fighting style. Fight a physical duel using your drumsticks against the keyboardist, the strings section, and the rest of the band! It's every drummer's dream to have a Battle of the Band!
BingBong’s Bodega
This economy runs on guitar picks and exposure,
Your only companion in this hellscape is BingBong, a seemingly friendly voidling, who helps you along your quest by advancing your drumming skills… for a price. His booth at the end of each level is open to trade in guitar picks for something a bit more useful on a run or to put some pep back into your step.
Back in the Santuary, each new drummer can use the EXP (or Exposure) acquired by their recently fallen band mate to gain more perks for their upcoming escape attempt. So that they might succeed where the previous drummers did not, or at least pave the way for the next one in line.
The Soundtrack That Fights Back
Metavoidal features 16 original songs, 72 variations, and over 60 dedicated drum tracks, split across 4 elemental albums: Fire, Lightning, Oil, and Holy - all composed exclusively for the game. Every riff, solo, and breakdown is designed to fuel the chaos, shifting dynamically based on your choices and performance.
Your playlist isn’t just for show, the music you collect during a run changes what you hear in battle. Pick fire and lightning, or oil and holy, and the soundtrack will change to match your corrupted powers.
From blistering boss themes to ominous ambient build-ups, the music is as much a weapon as your drumsticks. It hits just as hard!

Patch #1 Notes
Every time a game gets released, a patch note gets its wings. And I think that's beautiful. And so is ours, because it's actually nothing major. Just a bunch of QoL changes and bug fixes! We've been extremely lucky that nothing major has broken, so let's keep it like that, shall we? 👀 We've just has to tweak a few things, make others behave, and so forth. Here's what's on the docket for this lukewarm fix:So far, apart from some game tweaks, we haven't had any game-breaking occurrences. Which for a game launch is pretty freaking great... And now I need to knock on wood because we'd love for it to stay that way.But if you do stumble upon something you think needs to be fixed or looked at, we're all ears! You can post it in the thread of this update, make a new entry on the game's forum page, or find us on a platform like Discord to let us know. We have a whole channel just for bugs!Thank you so much for the support you've show our game so far. It means the world to us.If you've picked up the game, regardless of if you've enjoyed your time with it, we'd really appreciate it if you left a review. It helps not only other players know what's up with the game, but it tells Steam that "hey, this game ain't half bad".There's one more big announcement from us coming in the next week, so stay tuned for that. But for now, thank you for making our first launch an amazing experience!Chat soon,Read full article on Community Announcements (Yellow Lab Games)AnnouncementsOfficial

IT'S SHOW TIME!
IT'S FINALLY TIME TO RELEASE THE CORRUPTION OF METAL ONTO THE WORLD! Our master plan is finally complete."I don't get the reference" buttonRight. On. Schedule. Mostly... Let's not talk about the Xbox delay.Ok all jokes aside I can finally say, after 3 long years of development, that Metavoidal is available to play! AS WE SPEAK! Wow, that's surreal to type. Thank you so much for supporting us, this game, and our dream of releasing a commercial game. I'm so incredibly proud of every single team member that has ever touched the game, because it's our weird combination of ideas that made MVDL what it is. There will never be another game like this, because we all put a bit of ourselves in it every day. And I cannot wait to hear what people say about it. As always, if you run into any bugs please find us on any platform that you're comfortable using and send us what you've got. Or you can make use of the bugs channel in our discord. And now, a sneaky reveal...We're currently working on releasing MVDL's OST! That's right, we will have the soundtrack available as soon as we physically can. The tentative release date is the 22nd of August, but I will let you know as soon as I do if that changes. The soundtrack will feature 43 tracks, including the theme song our wonderful maestro, JD Viljoen, created for the game. I can't wait for you guys to hear it, he did an incredible job with the OST and it deserves all the praise. OK, I think that's all from us at the moment. Thank you again for the support. At the time of writing, we've reached over 11 thousand wishlists. A number none of us even fathomed would be possible at the start of the project. But here we are! And it is quite literally thanks to you. So for one more time, GOOD LUCK & HAVE FUN!Read full article on Community Announcements (Yellow Lab Games)AnnouncementsOfficial
Metavoidal Is Coming Soon!
That's right, you Double-Bass Demons, our game is coming out SOON! And not only will it be come in kicking on Steam, but on Xbox (and the Microsoft store), as well. Enough fanfare, feast your eyes on the official release date trailer for METAVOIDAL! We're currently doing final soundchecks for the big debut show. But while you wait, why not tell all your friends, or share this video with your parents to show them it wasn't just a phase, or write about it on your favourite venue's bathroom walls to help us reach the metal heads that would like to play a little drummer dude! It's been a hell of a long road to get here (there's a roguelite joke in here somewhere). We know at some point it even seemed like Metavoidal was stuck in indie game purgatory (even me), but we're finally seeing the light at the end of this very long development tunnel! As the observant ones among you would suspect, this isn't the only thing we have locked and loaded on the road to release. But you'll have to keep an eye on our comms to catch the shiny & new gameplay trailer that we've got hidden in the back. So we'll see you soon!Read full article on Community Announcements (Yellow Lab Games)AnnouncementsOfficial
STILL PLAYING
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43314370/29fe9dbbf31917b33b0ca94b7905fe1340220517.gif Listen, we all know that gaming (as an industry) kind of feels like we're all trapped in the 9 circles of hell. Or The Hunger Games. Or some other third fictional metaphor about fighting to stay alive. And that's exactly what we've been doing! Just like the BeeGees, we've been trying to stay alive. This resulted in us having to take a momentary step back from Metavoidal. But we're back now, baby! #1 Thank you for your support We know we've been talking about our game for literally years at this point. Release dates have been moved, the game's scope has increased/decreased/simply creased our brows multiple times, and we've disappeared for a few months. But we're still very much committed to releasing this game! So firstly, thanks for believing in us and our project, and then secondly for sticking around! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43314370/a90cd6f67cec05c9c6fe43d0033912903578fffb.png Now onto the questions you may have: #2 What now? Well, when we took a break the game was 90 - 95% complete. So the biggest task for us right now is to playtest the crap out of it and fix the things that are broken. There are some very obviously broken things, and then there are the things literally only one of us experienced but would really suck if one of YOU experienced it while playing. So we're taking the 220 grit sand paper to the game, and smoothing as many edges as we can. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!Metavoidal will be part of the Six-One-Indie Steam event that's happening from the 22nd to 26th of May. We might sneak an update in that has some QoL improvements and bug fixes, but we're pretty happy with the current demo build as it stands. So we won't be changing anything major. That said we've made the demo a separate page from the main. Why? Because we'd love to see player reviews! So if you've played the demo before, would you mind leaving a little review for us? Just so that we know if there were any bits that you mig...Read full article on Community Announcements (Yellow Lab Games)
