About this game
“Godforsaken. No other word for it. A murder so brutal it made the whole town of Asbury Pines look itself in the mirror. We work, we raise kids, we do our best, we let time run its course, and then we’re still left scratchin’ our heads. Why did this evil have to happen?”
- Rodney “Buzz” Snow, Sheriff of Asbury Pines
Asbury Pines is a first-of-its-kind story incremental/idler title. Combine and synthesize the work of Asbury Pines townfolk (the Pinies) to unveil a murder mystery across the small town’s history – from the late stone age to the deep future. Immersive writing and image-rich worldbuilding pair with idle/incremental gameplay. As you unlock an array of characters, artifacts and places from one era to the next, combine them and their unique stats in different ways to build and link resource production economies… across centuries. What emerges is a sprawling factory of working lives that unveils a story embedded in the flow of time.
If you enjoy gameplay that balances resource management, rich narrative development, automation/factory strategy, and idle progression, Asbury Pines was made for you!

From Hrokk the caveman to Moharan the temporal physicist, strategize and connect the work of Pinies through the dozen eras of Asbury Pines history. As you create and modify your resource production engine, you unlock more people, places, and upgrades that combine to strengthen yields and unveil greater depths of a grand mystery.
The breadth and possibility of your plans grow alongside the story.

There ain’t any angels among the Pinies, but a good many are hearty folk who aspire to make a proud home. How did this bizarre murder happen, and why? The narrative begins in the present day and spreads – past and future – across 12 eras from the late stone age to the deep hereafter. Each era brings more details, characters, intrigue, and answers to a mystery that spans the flow of time.
Explore how individual insights, conversations, and documents – stories from wildlife, artifacts, inhabitants, heroes, and invaders – piece together and connect one era to the next, one answer to another.

More than 50 people, plants, and animals with unique stats and backgrounds emerge across the history of Asbury Pines. They drive the mystery with their personal stories, age across timelines, and contribute to the resource growth needed to progress.

Preview: New Character Skills System
Hey there Pinies,For our upcoming series of updates, we'd like to keep you posted with a few previews of what's to come. If you haven't been following along, we've now begun work on the next round of content, as outlined in our roadmap post.(Spoiler Warning: previews may contain details of the game not yet experienced by players.)Character Skills systemOne of the first features we're working on is an overhaul of the Character Skills system. Our original skills system was bit too linear and one-dimensional. Each action (Working, Scavenging, and so on) had its own skill level, and those skills could only be improved through perks on the Government, Religion, and Science tabs. While this was a solid foundation for improving character production, it didn't leave much room for strategizing individual character progression -- the little engines that keep the game economy running. As we started designing new systems like Friendships, Sports, and Tomes, it also became clear that we'd eventually end up with more skills than we'd like players to manage. The new system uses seven core skills: Life, Scavenging, Work, Nature, Research, Community, and Rivalry. These skills will support multiple actions and expand progression avenues throughout the game. Our goal is to make the gameplay less repetitive and more strategic. The result? Players will now have additional ways to improve a character's skill levels (in addition to researching Government, Science, and Religion):Players will be able to improve the skills of individual characters via a new Learning tabIndividual characters can be honed over time to be highly skilled in particular actions to fit your style of economic progression Players will be able to equip characters with Artifacts (and eventually Tomes), which provide additional bonuses to their skill levels. (We also hope that these equipment slots give researched artifacts a more meaningful economic impact.)Check out the updated Character Skills UI below:As always, thank...Read full article on Community Announcements (jedizebra)Patch NotesOfficial
Early Access Patch 9
Hope everyone's having a good summer, Pinies,We have begun a new round of updates that we're calling "Phase 2" (see our roadmap).Phase 1 was focused primarily on polishing and completing the game. Much of that work came from community feedback, and resulted in a large number of QoL improvements, bug fixes, and other features that we felt were important additions to the game. With that foundation in place, we're now developing new content, as outlined in our roadmap post. Today's update is a small patch focused on notifications. Some players told us that the opening flood of notifications could feel overwhelming, and that some messages were difficult to read or disappeared before you had a chance to process them. We've made a handful of improvements to help with that.(Spoiler Warning: patch notes may contain details of the game not yet experienced by players.)QoL ImprovementsThe number of notifications shown during the opening moments of a game has been reducedNotification background colors & style have been updated to improve readabilityNotifications now remain on screen until dismissedNotifications now include a Close buttonA new "Close All" \ button has been added to quickly dismiss all notificationsThank you to everyone who continues to share screenshots, suggestions, and thoughtful critiques. We read far more of it than you might imagine and we are hyped to further build out our world in Phase 2."In the patches we are found, sayeth Quentin P. Brown."Thanks for your support, and enjoy your summer!John & PeteRead full article on Community Announcements (jedizebra)AnnouncementsOfficial
Asbury Pines Early Access Road Map
Heya Pinies! It's our darndest pleasure to announce that we've formalized a road map for Asbury Pines' journey from Early Access to 1.0! Without exaggeration, the invested and thoughtful support and feedback from our game community made this path -- and everything leading to it -- possible. I know we say "thank you" a lot, but we guffin' mean it! TLDR: we plan to overhaul gameplay systems, deepen targeted points of narrative immersion with new and edited content, and continue with quality enhancements. In two months since the title’s Early Access release, our tiny team of two has released eight game patches focused on quality improvements and features that help to optimize the current gameplay experience and customize it to different playstyles (especially those that want to sidestep the idler elements). These updates have also led Asbury Pines to be Steam Deck verified ✅. The next order of business is reimagining the game systems and the grand narrative ending for 1.0 so that returning players will get a significantly refreshed experience and updated story, while new players benefit from playing a more perfect title. While elements in the following Early Access roadmap may change from community testing and feedback, Chaystar has targeted a number of areas for improvement.Gameplay UpgradesThe overall goal of the gameplay updates is to refocus strategy from managing characters between tasks to creating key efficiencies in their constant work. The plan includes:Guided tutorial modeExpanded character capabilities to enable simultaneous actions (like resource production and perk research)Deeper character skill leveling system New economic production elements, including homes for increasing town populations and warehouses for resource storageVarious new tabs that directly contribute to resource production strategy: Friendships, Learning, Conflicts, TomesResearched artifacts can be equipped by characters for various boosts to work and skillsUp to four new soundtracks, inclu...Read full article on Community Announcements (chimcham)Patch NotesOfficial
