About the Game
After crash-landing on a deserted planetoid deep in uncharted space, your job is to keep your crew of four distinct explorers alive long enough to figure a way back home. Adaptory combines deep physics-based simulation with base building and discovery. As your team digs below the surface, relationships develop, challenges appear, and rebuilding the ship might eventually take a backseat to unraveling the mysteries of this seemingly dead rock.

Each crew member is a distinct individual, generated procedurally at the start of each game. Your goal is to keep them alive: breathing, fed, warm, healthy, and happy. Each explorer has their own set of skills, traits, and opinions they will not hesitate to share with other crew members. Their conversations and diaries are an integral part of the story and the gameplay, helping you figure out how to best utilize their skills in a challenging environment.

The crashed ship provides shelter and will keep your crew alive for a time. But to survive, you'll have to build a proper base and form a resilient community capable of facing any dangers. Your crew needs somewhere to sleep, eat, wash, heal, and hang out to keep morale up. Manage temperature, connections, plumbing - and that’s just the beginning. Complexity grows over time. Eventually, you’ll have to automate the base, because while it grows, and so does your list of tasks, your crew size does not.

Adaptory runs on sophisticated physics and chemistry systems, simulating gravity, temperature, density, viscosity, and even phase transitions with nearly fifty different materials to learn about and experiment with. Leverage them for your benefit. Need power? Set up a solar panel array to capture sunlight. Or power generators by boiling water with molten rock to generate steam or funnel natural gases to a turbine. But remember: each game is a completely new, procedurally generated experience with unique challenges.

Every game comes with unexpected twists and turns. Random meteor showers, solar flares, earthquakes can damage your base - but also provide unexpected opportunities in the form of rare materials or uncovering new veins and artifacts, if your explorers survive them. Even if your base weathers it without a problem, it might push one of your crew members to the breaking point or sever a relationship. How will you adapt and survive? Will you?

Adaptory is a self-contained story set in a much larger universe. You will be able to take a peek at it through the crew's diary entries, artefacts you might find deep within the planetoid, system logs, and even random conversations. From the history of your crew's home planet and their deep-space mission to the mystery of what actually happened, piece together a gripping science-fiction tale crafted by award-winning writer Cassandra Tse.
Adaptory is an ambitious game combining base-building, realistic simulations, emergent gameplay, character development, and randomly-generated events, and is being actively developed with regular updates as we approach version 1.0. We will be introducing new systems and mechanics based on your feedback, so please join the Adaptory Discord to get access to early builds and join the community!

Update 2 preview – Introducing Streamer mode
In this final preview post for Adaptory Update 2, I’m excited to round up the reveals with a small expansion to Adaptory’s story, and a new way to play the game…Naming the planetAfter a few days of surviving this unexplored planetoid, your explorers will want to give this planet a name! You can enter in any name you want, or use the random planet name generator (I’ve always wanted to make one of these! :D).Explorers will refer to the planetoid name in conversations, diary entries, and major events. We need to fix this ship(Spoilers ahead)In Update 2, you need to research and craft three new unique items at the constructor to be able to reuse the crashed ship as a distress beacon:The astrometric sensor, crafted from glass, gold, and data chips; The fuel cell, crafted from graphite, bitumen, oxycans, and insulation; andThe spline reticulator, crafted from iron, diamond, and artefacts. You’ll need to create at least one of each item for the distress beacon to complete the story in Update 2. (At higher difficulty levels, you’ll need two or more.)Streamer modeStreamer mode is a new, experimental way to play Adaptory for streamers and content creators. You can now directly connect your chat or community to Adaptory, and they can directly trigger benefits, challenges, and all sorts of havoc. I’ve been wanting to add this into Adaptory for a long time now :DThere are more than 50 commands available, and you can choose what commands to support, when, and how they’re triggered – perhaps with Streamer.bot, ActionBot, FireBot, or anything else really. ZeppyGame has also put together a handy integration guide – thank you very much ZeppyRead full article on Community Announcements (jevon)Patch NotesOfficial
Update 2 preview – Things are heating up
In this second of three preview posts for Adaptory Update 2, let’s talk about the “temperature” part of The Temperature Update!Adaptory's updated temperature overlay (F3) in a chilly worldExplorer and building temperaturesJust like every object in the game, your explorers absorb and conduct body heat with their local environment, and in Update 2, they are much more sensitive to temperature:If their body temperature is within the comfort range (20~30 °C), explorers will feel fine and dandy. If their body is outside of that range, they will become upset. Explorers’ temperatures will naturally converge to the midpoint of this range. If their body temperature is within the safety range (10~40 °C), explorers can still do errands, but they’ll be upset. Outside of that range, explorers will actively stop what they’re doing, run away to safety, and they’ll throw a temperature tantrum to rapidly heat themselves up or cool themselves down.Explorers will try to avoid or do any personal errands inside any cell that is outside the extreme range (-10~60 °C). (No more writing diary entries in magma!)An explorers’ body temperature will tend towards neutral (25 °C) naturally through thermostasis, and will be affected by the temperature and thermal conductivity of their surroundings. For example, if they’re sitting in a puddle of cold water, their body temperature will rapidly decrease. The rate of thermostasis can also be affected by your game's difficulty level. Most buildings now also have operating temperature ranges, and will automatically shut down if their temperatures are outside of a safe range. (Building operating temperatures are not enabled on the relaxed difficulty level.)With explorer and building temperatures, I’ve tried to make temperature management and interactions meaningful, without being frustrating or irrelevant. I think we’ve found a really good balance, but I’d love to hear your feedback. Balance is tricky!Shern is having a temperature tantrum to try and cool do...Read full article on Community Announcements (jevon)
