In STARWEAVE, navigate a turn-based strategy adventure where your choices shape a poignant narrative. Issue commands to light Beacons and face the roles that fate has destined for you.
About this game

STARWEAVE is more than a narrative-focused tactics game – it’s a tapestry of intertwined fates, a journey marked by camaraderie, laughter, loss, and defiance against the inescapable. Set against the backdrop of a world held hostage by prophecy, you will navigate the treacherous landscapes of destiny and grapple with the chains that bind you to an oppressive cycle.
Developer Note: This game is a thesis project created by a group of students and freelance collaborators. Starweave should take around 3 hours to complete. Please note that the game will likely not receive any additional updates. All purchases go directly to the developers. For more information on the game's development and release, please refer to our devlogs/Steam updates above.
Features:
✦ Squad-Based, Turn-Based Combat: Engage in tactically demanding encounters where every decision counts, and the balance of power can shift in the blink of an eye.
✦ Refusal Mechanic: Refuse to be bound by destiny. Characters may resist their prescribed roles, altering the course of what they've been told to do. It's up to you to come to grips with your errant actions.
✦ Rich Storytelling: Immerse yourself in a richly woven narrative where bonds are tested, friendships are forged, and every victory is a step towards breaking the cycle.
✦ Character Bonding: Experience heartwarming bonding moments with your teammates. Their lives are intertwined with yours, and their struggles, their laughter, and their sacrifices will resonate with you long after you’ve put the game down.
✦ A Stellar Team: Created by a team of over sixty students and collaborators, and including a phenomenal party comprised of the voice talents of Heather Gonzalez (Monster Hunter Rise, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment), Anjali Kunapaneni (Monster Hunter Wilds, The Outer Worlds 2), Marissa Lenti (Octopath Traveler 0, Borderlands 3), and Brian Timothy Anderson (Fire Emblem Engage, Infinity Nikki).
In STARWEAVE, every decision, every interaction, every step taken can tip the scale of destiny. With every choice, you will come closer to the truth - the truth of who you are, who you were meant to be, and who you choose to become. Stand strong against the tides of fate and weave your own starry path. Your journey awaits.

Just some odd & ends!
One last bonus devlog! Not everything we had fit into our prior devlogs, so we're sharing them here! We've also got a couple of demo recommendations, since our launch bundle didn't quite work the way we wanted it to. To see the rest of our devlogs, check out our Steam page below:Here are two free demos you can check out right now!As part of our launch campaign, we teamed up with an incredible line-up of games that really resonated with the ideas & themes found in STARWEAVE. Two of those games didn't quite get the spotlight we wanted, as demos don't factor into Steam bundles (despite being able to add them to the bundle! Valve pls fix), and while we couldn't quite include them there, we thought we should highlight them here:WHODUNNIT: Episode One - Hitting SinglesSTEAM PAGE | BLUESKY"WHODUNNIT: Hitting Singles is the first episode of a comedic mystery visual novel following a man who must answer a burning question: who the hell did he hook up with last night?Conduct investigations through point-and-click mechanics, interrogate a large cast of characters, and cobble together theories as "regular guy" Howie Falk chases down the ghost of his own gay virginity."I don't have much to add to that incredible description. A fantastic and relatable premise that lets you check it out for free, and episode one will get its hooks into you. Go give it a download, and I think you'll end up falling in love with its cast, too.MEMORALYSIS: The Scorched HomeSTEAM PAGE | BLUESKYWith some incredible art and a grounded premise that feels familiar, you might think you know MEMORALYSIS at a first glance. The demo will prove you wrong. What begins as a simple home call for a detective unravels into a web of intrigue that calls you to piece it all together, with the help of some... powers of the psychic persuasion. WHODUNNIT, MEMORALYSIS, STARWEAVE... we're all just games that like to be capitalized. 😌 Okay, now go download those demos, play them, and leave a review! Thank you, children of the stars
We've reached the end of our launch campaign! (Though we do have a bonus post coming on Monday... 👀). You can also look forward to a small patch & some other news in the near future, so don't forget to follow the game! We end with some final words from our creative director, Rachel Geng. To see the rest of our devlogs, check out our Steam page below:Wow. I’m writing these final words before we press the big scary Release button on STARWEAVE and finally see our efforts presented to the world. I can only hope, as I usually do, that my work, our work, finds purchase in the hearts of our players the same way its earnest bid for the world gripped the team as we developed it. We want STARWEAVE to be a story that touches hearts, that acts as a light in what is resigned to always feel like dark, cruel times. May our game convince you to create little revolutions of your own, to get out there and put action to compassion, to change the brutal systems that ordain our lives. I hope our game changes something, however small, about the way you think about the world around you: the capacity you have to see our complicated and contradictory world from the eyes of another, to wholeheartedly understand the circumstances behind why we lob hatred and scorn towards those we find other, to hold a burning and impelled compassion for all that is broken and unfair about the cycles that control us, and to do something to end them. Donate, protest, speak up, act, and strive for revolution. Workers’ rights, human rights, peace for the war-torn, equity for the disadvantaged, unapologetic social justice. In a world where shortsighted complacency is easy and safe, do the hard thing and truly consider what binds us to a life that could be better in as short as tomorrow. Refuse the status quo and strive for what broken Beacons could beget us, how much kinder the world might be if we forged a revolution with our compassion. Thank you, children of the stars. Remember what progress each past generati...Read full article on Community Announcements (abunchofdaftpunk)AnnouncementsOfficial
The Music & Sound of Starweave
Our second last devlog has landed! In today's edition, members of our audio team (Caio, Anna, Cal, Russell, and Austin) answer a couple of questions about the audio design of the game! For our full launch schedule, check out our Steam page below:⚠ Spoiler warning! There are spoilers for the game's story below. ⚠ What went into the audio production of the game? What was the process like?CAIO: The process was very iterative. I had worked with Rachel Geng on a student project she had previously made, so she invited me very early in the design process to serve as the audio director. The first few months were spent conceptualizing what we wanted the soundscape to achieve, both from an emotional and storytelling point of view, as well as from a player-feedback perspective, and creating many audio sketches to validate our assumptions and aesthetics. At the beginning, it was just me and the composer Will Bourassa Bennett, but we quickly realized the scope needed was quite large, so I got a few other friends I trusted involved in the process: Austin, Anna, Cal, Bobby, and Russell to help out both with the music and the sound design of the game. The idea of having multiple people working on the audio with each one imprinting their own personality on the same theme was an intentional move we discussed to support the idea of contrasts that the game portrays: both the contrast between the main characters and the world of lucid, as well as the contrast between the main characters that are the driving force of tension that the narrative revolves around. So we gave each composer their own narrative arc to own the music for, reinforcing the narrative structure as well as the radical changes in interpersonal dynamics we see throughout the game. But we still needed some level of cohesion. Will wrote the main musical motifs for the game, and then everyone else ran with them and spun them as their own. So there’s a continuous melodic thread throughout the whole game, but dressed in diffe...Read full article on Community Announcements (abunchofdaftpunk)AnnouncementsOfficial
The Narrative of Starweave
In today's devlog, we hear from Teddy, our narrative director & Ian, one of the game designers and programmers. For two perspectives on the story of Starweave, keep on reading! For our full launch schedule, check out our Steam page below:⚠ Spoiler warning! There are spoilers for the game's story below. ⚠Our first perspective...Dreamer...This world, and your own, balance at the edge of a precipice, will you become what the stars have fated you to be?Or will you defy inevitability? My introduction to STARWEAVE happened in a screenwriting for games class that Rachel (our director) and I took together. I watched her develop the strongest thread in the world of STARWEAVE, seeing it unfold in the context of the class. It would be a proof of concept, as she tried to scale the project into something she could build with a smaller, more intimate team. That way, we could be careful to keep the soul of the story alive, bringing the whimsy of the universe’s previous iterations into this game. As I understand it, full-scale production began shortly after, with an outline and cast that reflected a strong commitment to STARWEAVE’s vision. Coming into the project, we were able to look over much of the concept work that brought STARWEAVE to the vision we were presented with: a portal universe where these kids were plopped from the real world into a dreamlike place where they would use their fate-assigned powers to save the world. The world you explore in-game always had this purpled, dreamlike atmosphere: as if we were overlooking the universe on these few islands in the middle of an endless abyss. This way, we would envision the real world, where our place in the universe, small and lonely as it is, is visually apparent, surrounded by stars on all sides. We filled in the details of the setting from there to reflect the march of time through the game's events, while the backdrop remained ominous yet unchanging as our characters’ relationship with destiny emerged. The longer we sat wi...Read full article on Community Announcements (abunchofdaftpunk)AnnouncementsOfficial
The Engineering of Starweave
It is the start of our second week of launch developer logs, and today's is technical! For our full launch schedule, check out our Steam page below:Hi! I’m Sammy, the Engineering Lead for Starweave. In practice, I worked at the intersection of engineering and production—partnering closely with design, art, and narrative to assess feasibility, scope, and technical risk. A big part of my role was helping the team decide not just whether we could build something, but whether we should, given the project’s state and codebase, while also mentoring junior engineers along the way. What challenges did you face with the production of Starweave?Designing the game in a modular way. Even though Design laid out the sequences in a modular way, this posed many more challenges and required more custom implementation than expected! The system engineering build ended up modular, but we hadn’t really accounted for much of the actual labor required to implement each sequence, so that was hard to plan for at first. Workflows and pipeline. We didn’t have as many tools built out as bigger teams at bigger studios typically have, like tools for narrative designers to implement content independently of engineering support. We wrote some custom tools in order to facilitate that process and reduce cross-team dependencies, but they were definitely jank and tailored to our situation! Clear design requirements. We had a pretty awkward situation where engineering implemented something, but design later pointed out that it wasn’t functioning correctly. It had been like that in the builds for a while, and something must have gotten lost in communication for it not to be brought up for so long. I think if we were to do it again, clear design requirements, as well as a scheduled meeting with all relevant designers and engineers in the same room to review requirements together, would have helped. How do you stay organized on a project like this?Strong communication! For my part, I was largely working wit...Read full article on Community Announcements (abunchofdaftpunk)
