About this game
Roadmap

A Rough Roadmap of our plans for Early Access (All subject to change)
About the Game
Welcome to Luminary, a balanced ARPG-lite that can be played Solo, or with friends. Scope could grow if the Early Access does well and the community grows, but for Day 1 expect:
- Forgiving Combat and straight forward game mechanics to bring newbies to the genre
- No Fuss Drop In Drop Out Co-op Multiplayer, simple for friends and family
- Character Creator with 6 Races, Hair Styles, Beards, Make Up, etc.
- Continued Character progression across your solo game OR friend's games and back
- Half of 2km sq OpenZone Map to explore with multiple modes of traversal (Larger Map Planned)
- Quick Swap Different weapon types for dynamic combat, Sword/Shield, and Bow to start, more soon.
- Enemies to fight and camps / bases to destroy, Large towers to liberate
- Mini Bosses, Main Boss fight to "Beat the Game" will come later when we release the map's back half
- Experience can be replayed at harder difficulties to continue fun and progression
(There is only two of us making this game, so while I know everyone is enthusiastic about the possibilities, please allow us some time to cook. Content is going to take us a little longer than a big team, but we have a plan for success)

A dense hand crafted world to explore, with a robust fun locomotion system that allows you to go anywhere.
Climb the tallest mountains, brave the deepest waters, glide to distant lands, with many hidden treasure to uncover

A real time skill based combat system, where you can switch between fighting styles at the press of a button.
Melee, Ranged, Magic, Blocking, Dodging, Enjoy! and swap to different weapons during fights to keep it dynamic

Drop in Drop out, 3 players online, with a planned 2 player local couch co-op option. No Hassle and No Problems.
The Character you’ve been progressing in your Solo game, is the same one you will use and progress further in Co-op

Use a simplified Character Creator to make your unique character from multiple fantasy races to truly stand out

Your progression stays with you, from solo, to co-op and back through multiple playthroughs. And even your town upgrades go with you into New Game +. You will Unlock new Tier levels of difficulty every time you beat the maps end boss, and those higher Tiers are where the enemies are tougher but the rewards and XP are even greater.

There will be mining, fishing, animal catching, and other things to enjoy. And in Multiplayer you are not tied to your Host’s location, you are free to play your way, even in their game. You can be the team’s miner, searching for the best ores, and trade them to your friends for their precious GOLD!

Save the towns people and use gathered resources to help them rebuild to their former glory.
The Blacksmith, Armorer, Arcanist and Chef can level up as well, granting the ability to sell and craft better equipment

Centuries ago, a primal magic surged from the earth's depths, fueling empires but twisting it's inhabitant and the world into corruption's grasp. Forests blackened, skies bled shadow, and rivers turned to poison.
But a less prevalent radiant energy was also born, and hidden within pure warriors, the Luminaries. Armed with the light, their goal is to reclaim the land, hurling back the blight.
Yet the Luminary's gift is double-edged, immortality that tempts the soul. Every 80 years, Luminaries must yield their light to a successor, or risk eternal decay. Defiant ones hoard it, swelling into godlike tyrants of darkness, the Ebonarchs
As a new Luminary, rise in power. Shatter the Ebonarch's abyssal power source to strip their immortality, and strike them down. Together with your fellow Luminaries, push back the Darkness with Light.

Dev Blog #1 How'd launch go?
Hey Everyone!I wanted to start making Dev Blogs a regular thing. Even if we don't have an update ready to release, I still want you all to stay informed every few weeks on how things are going and what we are working on.Lets start with how Launch went. A couple weeks after the big day, I posted an update about stats and a video clip talking to the audience... it went semi viral... https://x.com/RefractiveENT/status/2092288439446118455 It's always crazy when a post gets that much attention out of nowhere, it was just my big dumb face talking, so I really didn't expect it to do as good as it did. The brief summary is: Few weeks ago I launched my first game Luminary Week 1 grossed $100k+ in sales. Only 2% of Steam games do that, and we did it with No Funding, No Publisher, No Ads, just hard work.Stats Today Net: $110kAfter Steam's cut: $77kAll Reviews: Mostly PositiveEnglish Reviews: Very PositiveI go over it a bit more in the video along with other things. But I always want to be completely open and honest with our community, even when it comes to money stuff that I don't really like talking about haha.I also mentioned our reviews in the video, and while obviously I'd like less negative reviews overall, it does seem like 90% of them all say the same thing. (We like where this is going, but there's not enough content yet) and honestly that's the easier stuff to add, it's just takes time. So I feel good where things are at and where we are going. As for the next update we are working on our Weapon Runes and Vendor Leveling systems We wanted to try and get this update out before Matt (other dev guy) leaves for a much deserved week to spend time with his family, but it looks like we are going to miss that window. We are close but rather than rush it out where there could be problems, better to wait for him to get back after we've had time to do some proper testing. So we will get that out a couple weeks from now, hope to see you all back then. And if you have played Lumin...Read full article on Community Announcements (Refractive Entertainment)Patch NotesOfficial

Launch, Plans, Hotfix Update
Thank You First, I want to say thank you all for giving us a chance. Making a game and putting it out into the world has always been a dream of mine. We are completely self taught, and just figuring things out as we go along. A co-op openworld ARPG is not an easy type of game to make either, and many told us we shouldn't start with something this big, but it was just the game we wanted to make :)When we released our demo, we also started in a rocky spot. 75% reviews at first, but through time and updates we got our Demo reviews up to 90% Very Positive. While I hoped we had done everything right to start off there with our Early Access release, it looks like we are going to need to take the same path of slowly grinding those review scores up with each build update. But that's ok, we've done it before and we can do it again.Early AccessI'm a perfectionist in nature, so I never want to show a work in progress to the world. But I've been working on Luminary fulltime for the last year, and we have no outside funding. So Early Access had to be a necessary step for us in our development cycle early on, even at this foundation phase.I've also seen many reviews that start with "love the potential" and end with "hopefully the developers don't abandon the game". Is that a super common thing with Early Access titles? I'll admit I'm pretty new to the Steam ecosystem, so I'm not 100% aware of the trends. But I can assure you when I start something, I intend to finish it.With all that said, I know people are wanting more content quickly, and we are definitely working all possible hours to make that happen. We have a clear scope roadmap, but will slightly adjust it to add in specific things the reviewers have all asked for with each update.Hotfix Build Update: 0.11.02.0036It's only been 3 days since launch, but we wanted to put out this small Hotfix Patch before the weekend. It Addresses some Bugs, some Quality of Life, and some Additions: Additions:Sword, Shield, and Bow leveling ...Read full article on Community Announcements (Refractive Entertainment)AnnouncementsOfficial
Luminary's Early Access - OUT NOW!
Our JourneyAfter over 4 years of testing/learning game dev, and then another 1.5 years of rebuilding it from the ground up, working on it full time with just the two of us... Luminary is FINALLY out in the world! I can't even put into words how that feels... Surreal? Accomplishment? Terrifying? It hasn't really sunk in yet. This solo or co-op Zelda/Fable/Skyrim Idea I had for a game that my family could play together that we all enjoyed. Dynamic combat for me, forgiving combat for my wife and son. Exploration, leveling by doing, drop in drop out co-op and continued progression across different sessions. Years lead up to this moment, and it actually happened. Our PriceWhile we priced our game at $20, about a month ago I decided to increase our launch day discount per additional wishlist milestone we hit. Well we definitely didn't hit 150k, we didn't even technically hit 100k... we were close enough. I'm going 15% off for the first 2 weeks of launch, because... I feel like it!Our CommunityMany of you have been with us on this journey for so long, and your continued support over that time honestly means the world to me. While it took forever, I hope you can see the passion that we put into Luminary. And over 600+ of you signed up for our Hall of Heroes, pledging to support us week one! Though the Hall of Heroes has now been closed, follow us on Discord, we will likely do more community stuff like this in the future :) Our FutureNow obviously this is our Day 1. Luminary's launch build is focused on our Foundation. There are the basics in place of pretty much all of our important gameplay mechanics and systems including co-op. And from here we can really start to focus on adding content and variety to the game. Here's a glimpse at the rough ideas we have for Luminary going forward: Through a Public Demo and Playtests with the community, we really focused on making sure all of the game breaking bugs and issues were resolved in our foundation before release. (we hope haha) ...Read full article on Community Announcements (Refractive Entertainment)AnnouncementsOfficial
Closed Playtest Tomorrow!
Hey Luminaries! If you are already a member of the Hall of Heroes, then you should have received an email this morning about signing up for our Early Playtest taking place Tomorrow July 26-27th. This is the first opportunity the larger public has been able to experience drop in drop out co-op, but you can play it solo if you'd like. If you did not receive and email, we've got you covered! You can still sign up for it here: https://luminary.firstlook.gg/ From First Look we will be able to send out Keys to everyone tomorrow morning. This is a "closed" playtest. Meaning no streaming or content creation of it, but you will still be able to invite friends from your first look account to receive a key so you can play together. This is mainly for us to give our community an early look at things, and to hunt down any big remaining bugs, so we can solve those before our Early Access launch Aug 11th. We are gathering in our discord in a private PlayTester only channel to share feedback, videos, etc. Discord: https://discord.gg/NNrurAT5um Thank you all for supporting us, looking forward to playing with you tomorrow :) KeithRead full article on Community Announcements (Refractive Entertainment)
