New in the Demo: Animations, Translations, Keybindings, and a World Map!
With Early Access barreling toward us this December and the Steam Next Fest around the corner, we've been busy laying down the foundations for a proper release. This update fills in a bunch of the essentials: keybindings, a new translation system, and movement animations that now play for every piece type. There's also a shiny new World Map you can pull up while roaming the open world. All of it is live in the Demo right now. So you can jump in and feel the difference ahead of the December Early Access release.Piece Movement and Attack AnimationsPreviously, all of our party members already had movement animations. But out in the overworld, those animations only showed up if you were playing with a controller. Now those animations have been completely reworked. They play everywhere, for every piece, no matter how you're getting around. Sliders lean, jumpers hop, and everybody moves with a lot more life, whether you're on a controller, keyboard, or clicking around with your mouse. TranslationsAs a small hobbyist team based in California, few things get us more fired up than seeing the game reach players around the world. Some of our earliest and most passionate fans come from Europe and other corners of the globe, and we want them to enjoy the game just as fully as our English-speaking players do.So we've built out a translation system from the ground up. It lets us plug in new languages down the line and translate every line of dialogue and every menu into whatever language you play in. (A quick heads-up: some text is baked directly into the artwork and isn't translated yet, but we may still get to those images in the future.)First up: German! Germany is our most-wishlisted country after the US, so it felt like the natural place to start. You can switch to it right now from the options menu on the main title screen. And it won't be the last, we've got more languages on the way before the December release, so tell us which one you'd like to see next! The Level Editor is ready for Early Access!
We’re very excited to announce the completion of the Level Editor work. As part of our overall feature timeline, this is a big step. It brings us one step closer to the Early Access launch. We’ve had 3 main features to establish before we could launch EA: Level Editor, Multiplayer Mode, and unlocking the Campaign open-world after the events of the Demo. With Level Editor done, we just have two remaining, and we’re moving more quickly these days!Level EditorFor those of you that have been with us for while, you know all these features have been available in an early state on the old website chesslike.net. For the desktop game, we’ve been focused on polishing the Level Editor experience for players into a more intuitive experience. The player doesn’t need to know anything about the inner workings of how we lay art and logic layers in the map for example.Along with UI improvements, we’ve implemented what we call “Mario-Maker-Style Publishing”and level validation. You can make a level any way you want, but you have to be able to beat it in order to release it for the public to play. Every level published by any player will be available for other players in Freeplay mode. Authors will be able to update levels and republish them after beating them again. We’re really looking forward to seeing what players create! The levels will have liking, reporting, and sharing! One of the most amazing things that happened back when we were on the open web, we had some really special educational purpose use cases. For example, a teacher who is creating levels for their class, and having a shareable link for their students to easily access the levels and work through small logic puzzles as a fun and mentally-healthy exercise in class. We’re especially excited to share that for players who own the game, they will be able to share any level from Freeplay Mode with a publicly playable link that is live on the open web. You can see an example of that here. Play Now: https://chesslike.net/pl...Read full article on Community Announcements (funkyKnuckles)AnnouncementsOfficial

Gearing up for Freeplay Mode
Dear Chesslikers ♟ Camera bugs and Game Freeze Fixes A huge shout out to all the Community posts, and Discord messages from the players here: We've reproduced a lot of the issues that have been reported, and have fixed some major architectural oversights that now reduces those bugs greatly! Freeplay Mode - Coming Soon! Freeplay Mode will cover several different types of Freeplay for the players. The first type that will be available soon is the "Story Replay" section. Soon we will add the "Featured" and "Player" sections containing levels from the community via the Level Editor, and levels from Multiplayer mode that you can practice with AI. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/40652518/8f8fdc79f6595701288806916c05a911dd56800c.png Story Replays After beating a level in the campaign mode, you are graded and scored on the performance in the level. Now with the Story Replay modes, you can play those levels over and over to get the best possible score and grade on each level, using any pieces and items from your current party. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/40652518/b17147b4b853ddc3eeb1f5479a7d8bdd3a29b930.png Tooling for Campaign Chapter 2 We're also building up our tooling internally so we can move even faster when developing the new content for the next chapter in the Campaign mode. We're very excited to bring the players to the next world in Super Chesslike Adventure as it becomes available. Thank you to everyone who is playing, and keeping up with our updates! We still have a lot more to come! Stay tuned!Read full article on Community Announcements (mooreinteractive)
