Manage every aspect of space colonization from the Moon to Mars in Outer Space Shack. Build and launch rockets, ensuring the survival of your astronauts as you grow your bases across the cosmos.

About this game

Outer Space Shack is a base building game that simulates the key constraints of space exploration. From rocket payloads to solar panel yield, every element in the game is based on real-life characteristics.

As you build and expand your space base, you'll need to plan an efficient layout and increase its capabilities through new buildings and machinery. Use rovers to do the heavy work at first, and then bring in astronauts to live and work on the base. As you grow from an uncomfortable shack to a small village, develop businesses to make your base self-sustaining.

But building a space base is only half the challenge. You'll also need to protect your astronauts from the hazards of space, such as radiation and space dust, and ensure their mental and physical well-being.

With a realistic time scale and the option to play at different speeds, Outer Space Shack offers a unique and challenging gameplay experience. But don't worry, the game has been designed to be relaxing and easy to play, with as much automation as possible and no need to worry about placing cables and pipes.

Celebrate your space odyssey with a visit to the in-game space museum, and remember the struggles and triumphs of your journey.

    Release 1.7 - Mars Metallurgy

Release 1.7 is now live — the most ambitious update to Outer Space Shack in more than a year.Mars exploration reaches a new milestone with the introduction of a complete industrial chain capable of producing oxygen and steel directly from Martian resources.Industrial production on MarsWater ice can now be extracted from the Martian soil and processed using the new membrane electrolysis unit, which splits water into oxygen and hydrogen. To store these gases efficiently, the update introduces a three-stage compressor allowing hydrogen and oxygen to be stored in high-pressure tanks.Hydrogen can then be used in the new small-scale hydrogen furnace, reducing iron oxides from Martian regolith to produce crude steel. This locally produced steel can be used to manufacture additional space modules and expand your Martian base. The Akashgami light rocketMars missions also gain access to the Akashgami light rocket, designed for small resupply missions when a heavy interplanetary rocket would be excessive. Perfect when all you need is a box of spare parts.Quality of life improvementsRelease 1.7 also includes several improvements and fixes:Autosave systemImproved building descriptionsClearer appliance progress indicatorsPerformance improvementsStability fixesNew languages availableOuter Space Shack now supports five additional interface languages:GermanSpanishPortuguesePolishSimplified ChineseMore players can now manage their space bases in their native language.

First Preview of Outer Space Shack R1.7

Release 1.7 (coming before mid-March) significantly expands what you can accomplish on Mars. The Akashgami rocket is now available for Martian operations, enabling small refueling missions and adding new flexibility to your interplanetary logistics network.Water & ElectrolysisWater mining has been reworked to better reflect Martian conditions. With subsurface ice present across much of the planet, water extraction becomes a key pillar of your expansion strategy.Water can now be processed using a brand-new Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysis unit, complete with dedicated vent pipes for hydrogen and oxygen handling. The produced hydrogen and oxygen can be stored in pressurized tanks. To make this possible, Release 1.7 introduces a 3-stage gas compressor capable of compressing gases up to 50 bar. Compression is essential to store meaningful quantities of gas in a limited volume — and to prepare propellant for future missions. From Regolith to SteelHydrogen is not just fuel.It can now be used to reduce iron oxides found in Martian regolith, providing a virtually unlimited source of iron for local manufacturing.A small-scale steel furnace has been added, allowing you to turn locally produced iron into steel. Steel can then be used to expand your base using crude manufacturing — taking another step toward true Martian self-sufficiency.New Interface LanguagesRelease 1.7 also expands accessibility. The interface is now available in:GermanSpanishPortuguesePolishChineseOuter Space Shack is steadily becoming playable in more native languages — and this is only the beginning.Mars is no longer just a destination. It’s becoming an industrial frontier.

Grab Outer Space Shack at 30% off, and start your base on the Moon or Mars

Have you ever wondered what might have happened if the Apollo program had continued, or if the massive Soviet rocket had successfully launched cosmonauts to the Moon? Outer Space Shack dives into this alternate reality, where humanity constructs bases on the Moon and eventually Mars as soon as technology permits. Outer Space Shack simulates all technology realistically, capturing the intricacies of transport costs, rocket payloads, radiation effects, and the output of solar and nuclear power plants, all presented in a style inspired by real-world spacecraft. Start by securing government grants to launch your initial rockets, then strive to make your settlement self-sustaining. Collect geological samples, tap into space tourism, and maximize on-site construction to reduce reliance on Earth. This includes the ability to expand your base with modules crafted on-site using crude metallurgy—repurposing metallic asteroids and salvaged metal from discarded rocket landers. Advance real-life technology through dozens of research projects, enhancing existing spacecraft designs and breathing life into ambitious concepts that never made it past the drawing board in our actual history. From rugged lunar outposts to sprawling Martian colonies, every decision shapes your path to interstellar success. The game is improving constantly, with S1.6.3 just released, adding new features to Mars exploration, and more is on the way.Join this thrilling journey now at 30% off and build your own space program—where the cosmos is yours to conquer!

R1.6.3 is live and brings you to Mars

R1.6.3 will drop on Steam in the next few hours. This update focuses on the 2020s Mars settlement scenario. It starts by giving the space center a more 2020s feel, with a clearly modernized space base sign and a brand-new launch tower. The historical 1950s-style buildings also received small improvements across all scenarios, including a new staircase, improved windows, and the addition of a Baikonur-style radio tower.Back to the Mars scenario: you now start with all 1960s and 1970s research already completed. The logic around astronaut carrying capacity has also been overhauled. Since the game simulates gravity realistically, astronauts on Mars were previously not strong enough to carry the 80 kg water bottles. Men and women now have different carrying capacities, and men are strong enough to transport those bottles. If you ever wondered why you needed a man on Mars, the answer has something to do with heavy water containers. Warnings and information about astronaut carrying capacity have also been added to the menus.Water mining equipment has been updated as well, with logic distinct from the Moon. On the Moon, small amounts of water can only be mined in permanently shaded areas. On Mars, you can find small amounts of water almost everywhere. As a preview of the next update, I’m currently working on new equipment to generate oxygen and hydrogen from water. Oxygen will help with life support, while hydrogen will make it possible to produce iron from regolith—though, of course, this will require a lot of energy. On the technical side, the game has been upgraded to a newer Unity version. You generally shouldn’t notice anything, except that a security flaw existed in the old version. So launching rockets is now a bit safer.
