About this game

Spellmasons is a turn-based, tactical roguelike where you use your wit to blend spells and create new combinations. You can play solo or with friends in online co-op!

Discover Clever Combinations

The Spell System is deep and powerful: spells alter each other to allow for tons of creative possibilities.  For example: When you cast "Swap" on an enemy, the next spells in the combo will target your original location that you teleported away from so you can link nearby enemies together and follow up with a powerful damage spell that dispatches all of them at once!

Spellmasons rewards variation and creativity: spells get more expensive as you use them, and less expensive as turns pass, so you are encouraged to try new strategies often.

Explode your friends!

Work together with your friends in online co-op.  Save each other from near death or accidentally blow up each other!

Spellmasons features a unique “Faction-based” turn system where you and your friends can take your turn at the same time to keep the action going.

Specialize your magic

The Rune system adds a whole new layer to your magical potential by enhancing and specializing your magic.  If you want to be a Contagious Plague Mage who carries around curses so you can infect enemies wherever you go, you can do that.  How about a necromancer who creates copies of himself whenever he teleports and has a random chance to resurrect any enemy that he kills to fight for him?  Yup.  The possibilities are endless.

Challenging and Rewarding

Champion-ranked enemies provide an extra special challenge. They have modifiers such as “Growth” which makes them become stronger over time so you need to dispatch them quickly or “Slime” which gives them the ability to clone themselves.  Champions will make you think beyond your favorite strategies and come up with something new.

Uncover Secrets and Exploits

Find clever ways to push beyond your maximum mana to pull off ridiculously powerful spells.

Some spells combine in powerful and unexpected ways and the Discord community is always discovering new secrets.

Will I enjoy Spellmasons?

Spellmasons is a thoughtful, challenging, deliberate turn-based experience. Take your time, think creatively, and watch all of your plans unfold just like your diabolical little heart intended!

    Custom Wizards have arrived

Hello everyone! Last week Spellmasons got Steam Workshop support and the response has been amazing - there's been so much more excitement around it than I expected. So today I'm releasing v1.83.0 which contains some new moddable features and a bunch of bug fixes! Custom Moddable Wizards In the modding editor you can now create and play as entirely custom wizards! Customize their stats, starting modifiers, starting cards, animations and more! More Modding & Mod Editor Changes You can now download a sprite sheet for any given unit animation so you can tweak it and reupload it to create your own animated units with ease! Want a golem with a party hat on? Now that's easy to do, so long as you can draw a party hat ;) Unit AI can now target your own allies, so mods can build support units that heal and buff their teammates Bugfix: Modded summoner-type units can now summon "summon-only" minions (units that never spawn naturally in generated levels) Bugfix: Modded units play their custom attack animation instead of falling back to the idle animation when they attack onSelectUnit event and fx.predictionCircle allow you to draw your own info when units are selected (like if you give them a custom radius for something for example) Bugfix: Fixed FloatingText not being able to access variables All variable steps are now logged to console, so if you're debugging a mod you can see variables change in console by going into settings, clicking the hidden button in the lower left corner, clicking the Toggle DevTools button and choosing the "Console" tab Balance Abundance and Thief now only affect allies Growth, Devouring, and Curse Immunity stat gains no longer carry over between levels Bug Fixes The Endless Spawner challenge room has been temporarily disabled because it was causing soft-locks and I haven't found a good solution yet Fixed several soft-locks where a stuck upgrade screen blocked End Turn and froze the game Fixed the upgrade screen re-offering the same spells after takin...

    Hotfix: v1.82.1

Hello everyone! Thank you all for your bug reports. I've released a quick hotfix to address the most serious ones and I will get to the rest as soon as I can. If the game doesn't update automatically, you can restart Steam to trigger an update. Here's what's fixed in v.1.82.1: Saved game files were totally and embarrassingly broken. This has been fixed and even your old save files that used to be broken should work now! Fixed Statue wizard spawning with 0 mana Fixed enemies from walking right behind Statue causing the player to be unable to target them (Runesmith DLC-bug) Distant/Melee/Focused augments no longer fizzle when cast on potions. (Runesmith DLC-bug) Freebie/Bad Genes/Lucky no longer reveal random results in the prediction preview. Freebie refund now scales with how many stacked copies proc. Shotgun's red pellet lines no longer freeze in the planning view over an enemy. Renaming a mod in the Mod Editor no longer throws a false "internal mod id" conflict. Thanks everyone for your support! I'm so excited to see folks already making and publishing mods. Best, Jo

Huge Update + Steam Workshop Support

Hello Spellcrafters! This update has been a long time in the works and it may be the most impactful update I've ever done. Here's what's changed: Steam Workshop Support! This one is huge. Check out the new Mod Editor in the lower left hand corner of the main menu. Below you'll find a walkthrough of the Mod Editor if you want to get started. https://youtu.be/hBw0xV5AlWc?si=stT2gGa3HVzlhTHE More Features New Wizard: The Statue. The Statue cannot move but has infinite range and gets double SP. He's a challenging pick but a very fun and unusual play style with some great synergy potential. New Spell Abundance: Spreads the target's blessings to nearby allies. Multicasting chains the spread further. New Spell Shield Burst: The target's shield erupts, dealing its value as damage to nearby enemies and consuming it. New Spell Hex: Afflicts the target with a random curse. New Spell Thief: Steals all blessings from the targets and gives them to you, combining their values. New Spell Savior: Teleports the nearest ally to your side.
