About this game

About the Game

You wake in a collapsing tower with no memory. The only other person here—a silver-tongued mage named Ilar—claims to be saving your life through a desperate ritual. Yet, their story keeps changing and you keep dying.

This is Chronicles of Taldun: the Remainder, a dark fantasy visual novel where death is not the end—it's how you learn the truth.

Play as Vyn, a High Magus trapped with Ilar in a tower that's tearing itself apart. Each death reveals another fragment of memory, another piece of the mystery. Were you colleagues? Lovers? Enemies? The deeper you dig, the less certain you become, and the more you realize Ilar may not be trying to save you at all.

Read between the lines. Explore for clues. Use hands-on deduction to break the vicious circle and set them both free.

What Awaits You:

  • 172,000 words of bittersweet psychological horror (8-40 hours)

  • Over 500 choices, some more regrettable than others.

  • 50+ false endings and 3 true endings—dying teaches you how to live

  • Multiple romance paths with a nonbinary love interest (optional, fully avoidable)

  • Death-loop narrative structure where every playthrough reveals new layers

  • RPGFan Games of the Year 2022 - Editor's Choice Award

  • 96%+ Positive user reviews

"Bittersweet, hopeful, and utterly poignant... I was violently sobbing near the end." - Player Review

"A breathtaking narrative that explores memory, identity, and love across lifetimes." - Player Review

Also Featuring:

  • A magnificent cat who cares not if you live or die

  • An adorable eel friend

  • Death. Lots of it.

  • An angry potato

Chronicles of Taldun: the Longing - in development

Hi, it's been a while since we worked on the Longing, but we're back at it now.In case you don't know, the Longing is a sort of prequel to the Remainder, only that it takes place roughly 9,000 turns in the past, in a period of time before Lura became the Savior. The story follows Evin—a child who heard the Moons' songs and became something neither mundane nor divine. They believe they've been cursed, and spend many turns trying to understand and purify themself. But it won't be until they meet Near, a Shaper trapped in the machinations of the Order, that Evin begins to unravel the mystery of what and who they are meant to be. I (Ze) will be chiefly responsible for completing the script, which had sat at around 90k words since last I touched it(over 6 months ago). We have a bunch of artworks already done, which I think looks pretty cool, you have ancient Seas mouths, remote villages, lonely mountain peaks, temples, all kinds of goodies. More will come once the script is done. I'm aiming to finish it somewhere around the 12-18 months mark. That's the short of it, if you want the long:We kind of lost focus after the Remainder, we explored a bunch of things, like sketching out a story for the Hunger, which will follow the Longing, making a bunch of pixel art for characters, testing out different narrative game design tools, just... so many things. At one point I even made a framework for a 3d walking simulator with a model of Evin and flappy cloths and stuff.Honestly, it was fun, and we learned a lot, and it may lead to some amazing projects for us in the future, the far future, but it was all getting in the way of finishing the Longing. The theme for this next year and half will be focus. We will figure out how Evin and Near come together, how S'ruthrul stirs from her dreams, and down what course the fate of Taldun flows. I hope you'll stay with us for this journey. Be sure to wishlist the Longing if you haven't already. And if you want more frequent updates, consider ...

    Achivements patch

The achievement "I choose violence" was not triggering, now it should be. If you do not have it, even though you fulfilled the conditions, try starting a fresh run and it should trigger. Dyslexic font was causing a few pieces of text to go out of screen bounds. We gave it a good talking to. It understands the errors of its ways. The guide has been updated. Now the way is open for "I choose violence", "smug-face", and "lover". Use the guide at your own peril. What has been seen cannot be unseen. -Ze
