About the Game

You wake in a collapsing tower with no memory. The only other person here—a silver-tongued mage named Ilar—claims to be saving your life through a desperate ritual. Yet, their story keeps changing and you keep dying.

This is Chronicles of Taldun: the Remainder, a dark fantasy visual novel where death is not the end—it's how you learn the truth.

Play as Vyn, a High Magus trapped with Ilar in a tower that's tearing itself apart. Each death reveals another fragment of memory, another piece of the mystery. Were you colleagues? Lovers? Enemies? The deeper you dig, the less certain you become, and the more you realize Ilar may not be trying to save you at all.

Read between the lines. Explore for clues. Use hands-on deduction to break the vicious circle and set them both free.

What Awaits You:

  • 172,000 words of bittersweet psychological horror (8-40 hours)

  • Over 500 choices, some more regrettable than others.

  • 50+ false endings and 3 true endings—dying teaches you how to live

  • Multiple romance paths with a nonbinary love interest (optional, fully avoidable)

  • Death-loop narrative structure where every playthrough reveals new layers

  • RPGFan Games of the Year 2022 - Editor's Choice Award

  • 96%+ Positive user reviews

"Bittersweet, hopeful, and utterly poignant... I was violently sobbing near the end." - Player Review

"A breathtaking narrative that explores memory, identity, and love across lifetimes." - Player Review

Also Featuring:

  • A magnificent cat who cares not if you live or die

  • An adorable eel friend

  • Death. Lots of it.

  • An angry potato

Greetings weary travelers, The full game is finished at last! After 20 months of development, the story of or two magi is now complete. A lot of love and tears went into crafting of this tale and Ze and I hope you will enjoy playing it it as much as we enjoyed making it. We are very grateful to everyone who followed and supported us in this project, hopefully the first of many! The game ended up being much more elaborate than we originally imagined it, featuring around 20 hours of gameplay (depending how good are you at spotting clues. :) We would love to hear what you think of it and if you are able to untangle this mystery. - Ze and Nim https://store.steampowered.com/app/1616280/Chronicles_of_TalDun_The_Remainder/

    Act 1 Update

Act 1 received an update to reflect all changes we did to it while making Act 2. The most significant one being the proofreading and fixing all the typos. We had some really beautiful and dedicated people helping us to polish our words and they are listed in the credits. A new saving system (coded by Ayael of the Imperial Grace game) There is a new visual for death scene, some changes to the choices, a new scene art and a new letter. Thank you so much for your support and for being part of our journey. May the Currents take you where you're meant to be. - Ze and Nim

The Remainder Act 1 Now Available!

After many months of creative work, we've finally created something that we think captures the spirit of our vision, a dark fantasy tale of mystery, self-discovery, love, and forgiveness. The game was inspired by our love for interactive narratives, tasteful visuals, haunting sounds, and just a genuinely good story that takes you on a journey. We wanted to make something original, intriguing, and takes a bit of puzzling out. A mystery that draws you in and won't let go. In the course of the last few months we taught ourselves how to write, program, make music and manage a project. It had been a fun and exciting journey, and we're only getting started. There is so much more to the world of The Remainder that we want to tell, starting with the tale of Ilar and the high magus who lost their memory, or in other words, you. This was our first game, we had no idea how it was going to end up, but we never doubted that we'd make it happen. We hope you'll play it, enjoy it, support it, and be part of our journey. - Ze and Nim
